The commune is comprised of the two separate settlements of Tenero, on the banks of Lake Maggiore, and Contra, higher up the hillside.
This region has interesting activities to offer its visitors in terms of art and culture. It is certainly worth visiting the Galleria Matasci, which incorporates a wine museum, and the La Fraccia oratory, located in a most enchanting place, is a unique witness of the best in local history. It was actually designed and constructed by local trades people and is reckoned to be the most fascinating and important religious building in the region, representing the history and tradition of the people of the Verzasca Valley.
