Pincascia Valley After leaving Lavertezzo and reaching the road that leads to the village of Cógnora, visitors realise that what seems to be a single valley is in fact a narrow passage to the three valleys that unfold before them. Further South, the first is the rough and inhospitable Val Carecchio known to very few hikers, with the towering rocky Rognoi Alp relieved by only sparse patches of grass. Leftwards the path rises towards the long narrow Val d’Agro which widens only when its base opens up to the highlands of the Cornöv plain.
In between lies this valley which gradually climbs towards the Poncione Rosso peak, described by author Giuseppe Brenna as one of the most intriguing of all alpine formations: a veritable pyramid of colours. Highly recommended to all hikers.
